Why Choose The Grange?

We are a small privately owned, family run centre with only 37 children, so your child won’t get lost in the crowd.
We are a well established centre which has proudly been running for almost 25 years in the Sunnyvale Community.
We have favourable Teacher/Child ratios – the ratio for birth to 2 year old’s is 2 teachers to 7-8 children, whilst the 2 to 5 year old ratio is 1 teacher to 7.5 children. This is a substantial improvement on the government mandatory ratios of 1:5 child for Under 2’s and 1:10 ratio for Over 2’s.  You can be sure your child will receive plenty of individual attention.
Our natural outdoor play space is HUGE (much larger than the government requirement) and made of natural materials, with real grass. Just like an old fashioned ‘kiwi backgarden’.
Our qualified staff are experienced and long serving and also parents themselves.
Our Unique ‘Transition to School Program’ includes are weekly “Out and About” sessions into the local community.
Our infants and toddlers have their own area but are also included with the older children in a mixed play environment so that they can learn with and alongside others.
We hold regular family events throughout the year to support parents and extended family to get to know each other.
We have an annual school trip for the whole centre and a second trip for the older children.
We have been awarded a Gold Healthy Heart Award from the Heart Foundation.
We grow our own fruit and vegetables and work hard at being environmentally considerate.
We offer Online child portfolios (great for extended family overseas) as well as hard copy portfolios which you can take home and look over with your child.

Our Philosophy

It is our mission at The Grange to “provide high quality care and education to children and their families in a safe loving environment.”

The philosophy, values and beliefs at The Grange are firmly underpinned by the principles inherent in Te Whaariki (the NZ early childhood curriculum). These are:

Empowerment Whakamana
Holistic Development Kotahitanga
Family and Community Whanau Tangata
Relationships  Nga Hononga

“Ko nga pae tawhiti whaia kia tata, ko nga pae tata, whakamaua kia tina”
The potential for tomorrow depends on what we do today.

Our Values

At The Grange Early Learning Centre we value:

Respect: For children as worthy people with feelings and rights the same as adults. For each other as adults, colleagues, and professionals. For parents and whanau as the most important people in children’s lives.
Trust: in children as capable people. In each other, parents and whanau.
Honesty: with each other, children, parents and whanau.
Play: As a child’s right. As a child’s natural way of learning. As a necessity of life.
Exploration: As this is how children discover, learn and develop.
Curiosity: As this is how children seek to learn and come to know that learning is enjoyable.
Fun: Because everyone deserves to have fun often.
Communication: For and with children of all ages. Within the team. With parents and whanau to ensure high quality educare for all children.
Early Childhood as a valid and authentic time of a person’s life rather than a time to push or prepare children for school.
Diversity and respect for all children and their families regardless of ethnicity or background.
